Nicknames: LP, Pepe LePew, P.P.

Note from LP: Wow, I got to go on a vacation the week of Thanksgiving. I stayed at Aunt Brenda and Uncle Jim’s. They have 2 dogs of their own, a little 15# dog called a Rat Terror (or something like that), and a 45# Pit Bull. For a bunch of guys hangin’ out together for the first time, we did great. I’m used to playing with big dogs, so I was a little rough on them. I like to tug on their legs, or smack at ‘em with my big, fat feet. It’s all in good fun! The little one, Tux pouted a couple times, but we didn’t get in any knock down, drag out fights or anything. If I was too wild, B or J just said my name in that “you know you’re in trouble now” tone, and I backed off. I respected their rules about sharing toys, I didn’t snarf down my cousins’ food, AND I didn’t take a hike on the furniture! The boys and I would play for a couple hours then I would go to my kennel for 45mins or so, to give everyone a break. Before they went to work, Aunt B would fill my Kong with tasty treats to keep me occupied for awhile. I also had my favorite Nylabone with me.

I liked to snuggle with Uncle Jim on the couch. I had a blast being out in the back yard, even when those other two wusses wanted in becuz it was freezing! I like to go on walks, but because I follow my nose, that sometimes meant I walked right underneath Jim’s size 12s!

There are a lot of different sounds in a house as opposed to at the kennels. Some of them spooked me, especially that vacuum cleaner. B&J were really amazed that I didn’t “bay like a Beagle” all the time. They can’t believe that I haven’t been adopted already. I’m just a happy, go lucky guy looking for the right family to bring me into their hearts and homes.

My Story:
This little treasure was dumped in the backyard of a fellow animal lover. She contacted animal control and put an ad in the paper, but no one came to claim him. He is now in our care, socializing with other dogs, and waiting for a loving family to take him home.

If you know beagles, you will know that they go where their noses take them! A secure fenced-in yard is a must for our Little Prince. He enjoys going for walks and rides wonderfully in the car. Someone was probably heavy handed with him at some point as he will occasionally lower his head and give sad eyes when you reach down to pet or pick him up. He looks unsure of what someone might do, but he retains a happy go lucky spirit and is sweet, loving, a clown, and can be super playful. He already loves his stuffed animals and especially his Nylabone. He is learning that toys are owned by people who choose to share them with dogs. He gets the picture pretty quickly. He is gentle and kind and quite playful with other dogs- not yet sure about cats. He would do great in a household with older children who will not tug at his tail, etc., since he is somewhat sensitive.

He just had his first vet visit and was great with the vet staff and clients and dogs waiting in the lobby. He has been dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and had all his vaccinations (he will be neutered soon). We call him our Little Prince and Bugle Boy, although he is pretty quiet unless he sees you are giving love to another canine and he isn't involved. He weighed in at 29 pounds and is a nice healthy dog- trim and fit. We think he is about a year old- his teeth are nice and white and he has some puppy-like youthful cuteness (although all beagles seem to retain that puppy appeal). He enjoys and allows being picked up and carried but is not needy.

If you would like more information, or would consider becoming a foster or forever home for Little Prince, aka Bugle Boy :), please send us an email with questions. He was a very unexpected rescue, so donations are greatly appreciated (and tax deductible!!) since one of our volunteers is paying all his bills (he is also currently in boarding). We accept donations of heartworm and flea prevention, dog beds, toys, etc. Please spread the word about this little charmer!
