Mid-America Bully Breed Rescue strongly opposes any type of breed-specific legislation. MABBR supports enforceable, non-discriminatory laws, increased outreach efforts, and breed-neutral, neighborhood-based strategies to address public safety and pet overpopulation concerns.

Fellow animal lovers, YOU CAN FIGHT THIS!!!! –

As with all of you, we are sickened by the current state of animal welfare issues in many communities in the Metro area. We are extremely disturbed at the actions of local politicians as they blatantly put politics and media hype ahead of public safety and animal welfare in their respective communities.

This inept governance has finally culminated in the completely senseless death of a well respected member of our Metro community.

The state of animal laws in many of our communities is sad and tragic. But in matters of public safety; when laws have been shown to be completely ineffective at protecting our citizens, our leaders’ failure to address and change those laws is nothing short of criminal negligence. Politicians who support and pass Breed Specific Legislation do so in utter defiance of every expert organization in the country and show complete disregard for the safety of their citizens, and the well-being of our beloved pets.

Of particular concern to us are the current crises in Kansas City, Kansas and Overland Park, Kansas. There are burgeoning crises in other areas as more cities such as Merriam, Independence, Lenexa, KCMO, and North Kansas City all consider enacting similar Breed Specific Legislation in their communities. If you think this is bad in two cities, imagine it happening in five or six or eight! The only way this grievous wrong is ever going to be righted is if we stand up and fight as animal lovers and concerned citizens, bully owners and non-bully owners alike!

PEOPLE HAVE FOUGHT BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION AROUND THE
COUNTRY AND THEY HAVE WON!!!!

It is a fairly new turn in the courts, but over the last couple of years, time and again Breed Specific Legislation has been ruled unconstitutional. You can fight this! You must fight this. Alone you are one person, but together we will be heard. Some animal welfare organizations have been trying to fight this fight for you, but we cannot do it alone. Many other animal welfare organizations in this community have been pathetically quiet on the issue, and now we all must pay for their silence. We all must be heard. We all must stand together. We must tell these cities how terrible the current situation is, and we must tell the cities currently considering Breed Specific Legislation that it is completely unacceptable. We must support the cities such as Olathe, Belton and Mission who have shown wisdom and concern for their citizens as they chose forward-thinking, breed-neutral dangerous dog ordinances. The only person that can stop this is you!

The shelters are full. The rescues are full. These laws create more and more homeless pets each day. We can’t help everybody, but you can help yourself. Fight these laws! It is important to get your pet to a safe, legal location and then fight these laws in the courts.
